Can we set aside our regular cynicism about politicians for a moment?
This may be hard to believe for many, but most of the candidates I've met (and I've met a lot of them) truly see elected office as a chance to serve the public. They believe in what they're doing and want to make a difference in their communities. Sometimes it really is that simple.
Tom Norton is running for Mayor of Greeley. Tom has held much higher positions - president of the Colorado Senate, head of CDOT, candidate for Governor - and yet now he wants to run for Mayor of his home town. He doesn't need this on his resume or for his legacy.
It's not a glamorous job; it's a lot of thankless hard work.
Good for him.
